Forte dei Marmi - one of the most popular resorts on the Tyrrhenian coast - located around the marina, which was built in the sixteenth century. In 1788, Leopold I founded a small fortress to protect it, the picturesque remains of which have survived to the present day (hence the name of the resort - "fortress of marble").
Aristocracy and diplomats, business people and well-known businessmen, actors and artists every year choose this place to spend their vacation. In the 2000s, Forte dei Marmi has become famous as the ultra expensive holiday destination for wealthy Russians. Today they own about 30% of all homes on the coast.
